Osama dead
I went upstairs to say goodnight to my mom, but i got no response cause she was so focused on the t.v. i was interested because nomally nothing distracts her this much. I walked over to look at the t.v. and i saw the nes headline "Osama is Dead" and i relaized why my mom was so intrigued. At first i didnt really believe it, i thought that it was a lie maybe but then i kept watchig and it was forsure confirmed. But even still i said goodnight to mom and went downstairs, finished my homework and played gears. Right when i heard about it, it struck me as odd and as a big deal but that only lasted about 5 or 10 minutes and after that i didnt even think about it. To me, this really isnt that big of a deal, like its good for us becuase for all the people who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attack it kindof brings closer or revenge maybe. so its good for those people and its a good sybol for the american nation but i think that the Al kida have already moved on and have many new leaders and even better more powerful leaders so killing Osama was a big deal for us, but for them it wasnt as big of a problem. which worries me because im not sure what will happen next, its all kindof up in the air, but to be honest, for me, this wasnt that big of a deal and i got over it very quickly. But it did get talked about in a few of my classes which i liked because its a good discussion topic. and it even came up in rugby practice today beacuse our coach told us to crawl like we were the seals about to kill osama which i enjoyed. This is a big event in american history and im glad that we finally got him!

Maus-Night Blogging Assignment
Like Fallen Angles and Restrepo, the books Maus 1 and 2 and Night go together very well. For those who like comic books, i would recommend Maus but for those who enjoy a indepth all words story, Night is the way to go.
These books are very similar in many ways, for example in both books there is a lot of pain and suffering. Both books describe the Halocaust as an unbeliable horrible occurance that strongly affected jews and eveyone in not onlt europe but the whole world. both stories give an in depth example of the life in a concentration camp. they show that no matter who you are or who you were you will be a victim if not with your body then most defiantly with your eyes. Reading this in both books really opened my eyes to how messed up the halocaust really was and how horrible it would have been to go through selection and not get chosen or see someone you love not get chosen.
Both of these books give amazing, in depth examples of the true life during the Halocaust but even with that being said, i enjoyed and think that Night should be read next year and not Maus. I thought that Maus was a little bit of overkill on the depressing reading of the Halocaust. So for next year, Night would definatly be best to read because for me it effected me ALOT more the both Maus 1 and 2.

Restrepo Blog
Ther are many times in the movie Restrepo that gave me a better understanding of the book Fallen Angels and war itself, here are some examples.
1. In the movie after the squad killed a few of the taliban, they go into a city and see that they had killed some innocent civilians. This also happened in the book, and now that i saw the faces of the families who lost these men in the movie, i feel more sad about the situation.
2. watching the movie really made me realize who scared the soldiers were in the war. you could see it in their faces that they were scared and worried.
3. seeing the movie and the people talking to the local people, made me see how hard it was for them to communicate and how hard it was to sometimes agree on a solution.
4. in the book, the bond between the squad was described as an unbreakable love. in the movie this was proven to me, you could tell by the way they messed around and danced and talked that they alll had a very special connection.
5. in the book, some of the squad mates had pictures or items from home, that they treasured deeply. in the movie some of the men had pictures and you could see how much they missed the people in them everytime they saw them.
6. IN both the book and the movie the soldiers talked about how they felt like they were in the middle of nowhere. but after seeing the movie and seeing the camera pan around, i realized that they really were in the middle of nowhere.
7. also theyre were fights within the squad in both the movie and the book. the movie made me realize that fighting or wrestling wasnt necessarily beacsue of hated, it was just for fun and to pass the time.
8. in both the movie and the book, the captains, or higher ranked soldiers were definatly looked up to. in the movie when the head soldier was talking about death and everyone was quiet and attentive, i saw forreal that the soldiers really do respect their commanders.
9. in both the book and movie there were black and white soldiers, but in the movie there was no racism whatsoever. and in the book there was, but not between the closer squadmates. this shows that the closeness of a army squad can overcome any obstacle.
10. finally, the death of fellow crewmates, affected people in the book and the movie. the biggest similaritie that was showed very well in the movie was the care and the appriciation of squad mates who die. when the soldiers in the movie named the base restrepo, this showed that the men missed him unbelievably and proved how strong the bond was.

Billy: im trying to teach you that there are other planets are out there and that you should never doubt the fact that other life forms could exist, because you never really know.

Max: nothing really, tell me another story i really enjoyed the last one about the tralfamadorians
Billy: oh what a great idea, ill tell you about my experience in world war 2, i was one of the only survivors of the Dresdon bombings.
Max: thats crazy i heard that bombing was one of the worst, how did you survive?
Billy: well i was a prisoner of war and i was put in an underground bomb shelter with 100 other soldiers and a few guards when the bombing took place. it was truly amazing when we got out, the whole city resembled the moon, all destroyed with no signs of life as far as we could see.
Max: im so sorry you had to go through that, but im also so greatful that you survived
Billy: yeah, i guess i got lucky but surviving really taught me that you cant take anything, especially life for granted.
(phone rings..)
Billy: hello?
Max: hey billy its max
Billy: its 1:30 in the morning, why are you calling me?
Max: i couldnt sleep, i figured you might have a story from your life that could take me away and help me fall asleep.
Billy: ok but this is the last time im ever telling you a story, got it?
Max: ok ok it better be good!
Billy: ok so this story takes place in the war aswell, it was when i was traveling across germany in the POW trains. It was a disgusting place, there were so many men in each boxcar there was barely room to lay down, we passed around a helmet in order to go to the bathroom.
Max: wow, go on!
Billy: theres not a whole lot left to the story but one of my crewmates from battle died on that train ride and many other men died and got sick, it was probably the hardest time of my life, i had to sleep standing up, surrounded by death. but as you can see im still alive and imn back in a house with a wife that loves me. what this story says to me is that no matter how shitty life may be, theres always something good right around the corner, and you just have to tough it out and get there.

Siddhartha Compare/Contrast PIEs
Suprisingly enough, the book Siddhartha relates to my life very well. In the book, Siddhartha and his dad have a dispute about Siddhartha leaving home and Siddhartha challenges his dads word by standing unmoving saying that he will do whatever it takes to leave. "Then the father realized that Siddhartha could no longer remain with him at home-that he had already left him..."You will go in the forest," he said "and become a samana."(Pg. 12) Siddharthas father ends up giving in to Siddhartha's desire and lets him join the Samanas, showing that Siddharthas challenge worked on his dad. In my life, me and my father have disagreements about things that i feel i am ready to do aswell. For example, recently me and my dad have been talking about buying me a car and he said that i have to get a job before i can get a car, but i have not been looking for a job and challenging my dad because of it. I still do not have a car of my own but the relationship between my life and the book is not about winning the challenge, it is about the challenge itself. Siddhartha and I both challenge our fathers to get what we think we need, this is a huge relation to the book with my own life.
